Invitation Letter:

Dear Participant,

We are part of a research team with members from UFAL (Federal University of Alagoas), UFPE (Federal University of Pernambuco), UFPA (Federal University of Pará), UFCG (Federal University of Campina Grande), and PUC-RIO (Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro). We are studying the information needs to identify bug-introducing changes.

THE IDEA

We would like to collect the opinion of software developers/researchers about bug-introducing changes.

WHAT ARE BUG-INTRODUCING CHANGES?

During the process of development and evolution of software, developers perform changes, and these changes may introduce bugs, also known as bug-introducing changes [1].

THE INVITATION

We would like to invite you to participate in a questionnaire. We are planning to analyze the results of the questionnaire applying specific statistical techniques, thus, the questionnaire is not only composed by questions. It also asks the participant to analyze some statements about Bug-introducing changes. You will find more details and instructions in the questionnaire.

HOW MUCH TIME WILL IT TAKE TO FILL THE QUESTIONNAIRE?

Based on pilot studies, we estimate that it will take about 20 minutes to complete.

WHAT IS THE DEADLINE TO FILL THE QUESTIONNAIRE?

October 23st, 2018 (AoE Time)

WHAT DO YOU GAIN WITH THIS?

Beyond your contribution to the software engineering community, and our research in particular, you can participate in a raffle of a US$ 100,00 gift card in amazon.com.The raffle will occur only if more than one third of the invited researchers complete the questionnaire.

Additionally, For each respondent of this research instrument, R$ 1 will be donated (limited to a maximum of R$ 200) to the Poorhouse (Casa do Pobre), which is a Brazilian NGO with more than 80 years of existence. You can find more information about Poorhouse on its website http://casadopobre.blogspot.com/ (Portuguese only).

WHAT WILL BE DONE WITH THE RESULTS OF THIS RESEARCH?

The results will be consolidated and published, so everyone can benefit from them, but we will anonymize everything before doing so to assure your confidentiality. We would like to emphasize that, if shared, your insights will play a prominent role to better understand bug-introducing changes. This is a purely academic study. We are not receiving any monetary, or other incomes with this research, besides the academic ones.

Thank you so much for your time, and please do not hesitate in contacting me if you have any questions.
